Lake Bera
Pahang, Malaysia. Located in the centre of Peninsular Malaysia. A shallow, seasonal, riverine lake system which empties into the Pahang River. Covers an area of 6150 hectares. Categorised as a "Wetland". Malaysia's first RAMSAR site, giving the area some level of international recognition and protection. (April 2002)![]()

Kepong, Malaysia. The shady, forested trails in the forest reserve managed by the Forest Reseach Institute of Malaysia provide a glimpse of what it must be like to ride in a true, unlogged, tropical rainforest. (January 2002)![]()
Thiruvananthupuram (Trivandrum)
Kerala, India. The streets of the Keralan capital are clogged with cars, buses, scooters and autorickshaws. All of which apparently can only be driven with their horns blaring. A short half hour walk along any main street in "Trivy" will leave you enervated from stress, and your nostrils full of gold. (January 2002)![]()
Kochi
Kerala, India. An old and important port, fondly known as the Queen of the Arabian Sea. Much of Portuguese, Dutch and Jewish architectural influences can be seen, also Chinese fishing nets from the days of Kublai Khan. Playful dolphins make ferry crossings between islands a real delight. (January 2002)![]()
Munnar
Kerala, India. A hill station situated on the Western Ghats at 5000ft above sea level is once the summer capital of the British. Drive through winding lanes and quaint colonial towns and enjoy spectacular views of cloud caressed valleys and sprawling coffee, tea and cardamom plantations. (December 2001)![]()
Periyar
Kerala, India. The Periyar wildlife sanctuary is host to a remarkably high diversity and density of wildlife, including tigers, elephants, gaur, sambar and barking deer, otters, the Nilgiri langur, the Malabar giant squirrel and at least one pachat. Periyar is located on the Western Ghats, also famed for its cardomom crops. (December 2001)![]()

Cherating 2001
Pahang, Malaysia. A beach resort on the East coast of the peninsular. Take a boat ride on the Cherating river through a mangrove forest reserve, where you'll spot monitor lizards, tortoises and ular katam tebu. (October 2001)![]()
Lake Chini
Pahang, Malaysia. Malaysia’s 2nd largest natural freshwater inland lake after Lake Bera. The lake system comprises of 12 open water bodies. Covers 202 ha of open water & 700 ha of freshwater swamp and swamp forest. The lake is drained by Chini River which meanders for 4.8 km before it reaches Pahang River. (October 2001)![]()

Malaysia. Hotel Puri, on Hereen St in Malacca, is a lovely old nyonya building that has been tastefully converted into an hotel. (October 2001)![]()
Bukit Tabur
Ulu Klang, Selangor. Bukit Batu Tabur, or the Klang Gates Ridge, is a quartz ridge with a unique ecology and spectacular views. The traverse of the ridge is quite exposed. (September 2001)![]()

Gunung Nuang
Selangor, Malaysia. 1493m. Situated in Pangsoon, Ulu Langat, about an hour’s drive from Kuala Lumpur. A day’s feat, 4-5 hours to ascend and 3-4 hours to descend. Trek well used. No guide required. Serves as a training ground for those who plan to climb higher mountains or undertake longer trekking trips.(August 2001)![]()

Rajasthan, India. The picturesque capital of Rajasthan, popularly known as the Pink City displays remarkable architectural splendour. Bharatpur
Rajasthan, India. Keoladeo Ghana Bird Sanctuary, once the royal hunting preserve of the princes of Bharatpur, now a fine bird sanctuary inundated with over 400 species of water birds. Exotic migratory birds from Afghanistan and Central Asia as well as Siberian cranes from the arctic come here to enjoy warmer winters. (October 1999)![]()
