Trip to Cherating in October 2001

Cherating & Lake Chini

Nadia, Joe & Teh

18 October 2001 to 21 October 2001

Day 1

Checked into Legend Cherating (Junior Suite). Had lunch at the coffee house, the Tropicana Burger's quite good. Rested, had dinner (half a lobster for RM45/-). Built sand castles in the dark.

Day 2

Visited Lake Chini. Booked tour from the hotel at RM95 per pax. Would suggest that bookings be made with tour agents at Cherating Village instead as they charge RM25 per pax less, or cheaper still, go on your own! The drive to Lake Chini from Cherating was some 2 hours. That's 4 hours both ways. Would suggest the visit to Lake Chini be done on the way up to Cherating or on the way back.

Took a boat ride around the Lake. Stopped by the Asli village. Forgot to bring along writing materials e.g. pens/pencils/paper etc, the kids love them. Managed to buy affection with a packet of Oreos instead.

The lake is magnificent, water lilies everywhere. There's a resort at the lake itself, would be good to stay there coz would be able to explore the area on foot or in paddle boats or even dug-outs?

Day 3

We hung out at the Village. Discovered a delightful place to stay called Rhana Pippin (09-581 9207). It's located at the lagoon where the sea is safest. It's especially suitable for kids as they can play with the sand right at the chalet doorstep. It is also surrounded by restaurants and operators of various water sports and tours (they've also got horse riding on the beach!!). Would deffo stay there next time.

We also took a cruise on Sg. Cherating (jetty at the Village itself), saw snakes, monitor lizards, a tortoise etc. Nadia was especially thrilled when the boat man engaged the gears at top speed! A very pretty river, I would recommend a ride on it.

Places to eat, recommended by locals/food connoisseurs:-

A friend recommended chalets on the same stretch as the horse ranch called Tanjung Inn. For RM90 or RM120, one can apparently get a Jati four poster bed in air-cond chalets. Some units are on a man made pond. Chalets are spread out. Good place to watch monitor lizards, tortoise, hornbills and at one time flamingos-until some guests brought along big nets to capture them!

Day 4

On the way back home to KL, we stopped by Hutan Lipur Lentang to stretch our legs and what a treat it was! A delightful picnic area which the kids would love.
